Princess Diana struggled a lot during her marriage to Prince Charles. Even though she may have given up on her marriage, the late royal seemingly never gave up on love.

During her interview with Martin Bashir for Panorama, the Princess of Wales shared the advice that she gave to Prince William. However, Prince Charles’ ex-wife didn’t mention Prince Harry’s name.

It is possible that Princess Diana spoke to Prince William about love because he was older and more mature than Prince Harry.

“I went to the school and put it to William, particularly, that if you find someone you love in life you must hang onto it and look after it. And if you were lucky enough to find someone who loved you, then you must protect it,” she said.

During the same interview, Princess Diana also revealed how Prince William asked him what’s going on between her and Prince Charles. The future king was 10 years old when his parents separated.

Princess Diana said that he answered her eldest son’s questions honestly. And Prince William continued to wonder if the affair was the reason why his parents’ marriage fell apart.

“And I said, 'Well, there were three of us in this marriage, and the pressures of the media was another factor, so the two together were very difficult.' But although I still loved Papa, I couldn't live under the same roof as him, and likewise with him,” she said.

Princess Diana said that her son is a deep thinker so he listened carefully to her answer but he didn’t say much else.

Several years later, Prince William met Middleton and they tied the knot in 2011. The Duke of Cambridge has evidently listened to Princess Diana’s advice, because he’s still with his wife, and they’re happily married with three children.

As for Prince Harry, even though Princess Diana didn’t give her youngest son the same advice directly, he has also stayed loyal to his wife, Meghan Markle. Prince Harry also continues to protect Markle amid the criticisms that they have been receiving.

Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997. But her legacy continues to live on through her children.
