Could Whoopi Goldberg, a renowned actress, be eyeing a new role as the host of a game show?

In the aftermath of Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak's announcement that he would retire after the upcoming season, Goldberg has expressed an interest in assuming the mantle. The discussion arose during a segment on 'The View', where Goldberg co-stars, just a day after Sajak broke the news.

During the Tuesday, June 13 episode of their talk show, Goldberg openly stated her ambition: "I want that job! I think it'd be lots of fun." Joy Behar and Sara Haines, Goldberg's co-stars, jestingly expressed their desire to assume the role of Vanna White, the letter turner, although White has yet to comment on her future with the series following Sajak's exit.

Sajak communicated his decision to step down from the beloved game show to his followers on social media on the evening of Monday, June 12.

"Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last," Sajak declared. He thanked the show's audience, promising to share more in the coming months.

Vanna White, Sajak's long-standing collaborator, used Twitter to honor her friend, stating, "When we started @WheelofFortune who could have imagined we’d still be at it 41 seasons later? I couldn’t be happier to have shared the stage with you for all these years with one more to come. Cheers to you, @patsajak!"

Sajak's recent actions on Wheel of Fortune, including inappropriate comments, have reportedly stirred up some controversy among both fans and showrunners.

Sources revealed last year that Sajak had faced criticism from top-level producers and network executives due to his controversial humor and temperamental behavior. "Now no one, with the possible exception of his partner Vanna White thinks he's good for the show," stated the source.

In a 2022 interview, Vanna White expressed uncertainty about the show's future without Sajak, stating, "That's depressing. I don't even want to think about it. I just visualize us just being there. I can't think beyond that. I can't imagine. Everybody relates Wheel of Fortune to Pat and Vanna. We're like Ken and Barbie, you know?"
