The fifth installment of Riverdale has been on mid-season hiatus since March 2021. The good news is that the long wait is coming to an end as the teen drama is returning next month on The CW. What’s more is that the network released new details on what’s coming on the next episode.

Riverdale season 5 premiered in January 2021. Just like other series out there, the current outing encountered a series of changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally, the fifth installment would’ve kicked off with a seven-year time jump.

However, the fourth season was cut short because of the global health crisis. Thus, the first three episodes of season 5 wrapped up the remaining plots before going into the time jump. The Core Four were living their life as adults in the flash-forward.

Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) returned to their titular hometown, now working in their respective jobs. The four reunite and take on the new mysteries looming around Riverdale.

Riverdale returns with episode 11, which comes with the title “Chapter Eighty-Seven: Strange Bedfellows.” A lot of storylines will be explored here, but it’ll likely focus on the aftermath of Veronica’s father, Hiram (Mark Consuelos), prison break.

“In the aftermath of the prison break at Hiram’s, Archie (KJ Apa) leads the charge to round up the remaining convicts on the loose,” per the synopsis.

Archie and Hiram never get along really well, even before the time jump occurs. The latter has been trying to take down his daughter’s ex-boyfriend. Now, it seems like the fight and the action between the two will continue to play out.

Elsewhere in the episode, Tabitha (Erinn Westbrook) will reach out to Betty and ask for her help when she realized that Jughead may have been missing. On the other hand, Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) becomes suspicious of her mother's, Penelope (Nathalie Boltt), intentions when she re-appears.

Although the characters have aged and matured, the series still sticks with the original tone. Now incorporated with a much darker theme, the show remains to focus on bringing new mysteries the Core Four has to solve. They were often put in a situation where they need to uncover the truth.

Riverdale season 5 returns on Wednesday, Aug. 11, on The CW. The episode is directed by Tessa Blake and it is written by Aaron Allen.
