The author recently posted a mysterious countdown on her website, sending the rumor mill into overdrive with speculations hinting at an impending publication of "Midnight Sun," which is touted as the hotly-anticipated companion novel to the bestselling series. The five Twilight novels that were published between 2005 and 2008 revolve around a teen who falls in love with a vampire.

Aside from several million copies of the books selling like hotcakes across the world, they were also adapted into a well-received movie franchise that featured Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, who played the lead characters, Edward and Bella. Back in 2008, Meyer was gearing up to publish Midnight Sun which centers on Edward's side of the story.

The movie adaption of Twilight propelled both Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattison to instant stardom. Recalling the 10th anniversary of the first film, Pattinson spoke about how the franchise affected the pop culture, and also admitted that he no longer hates the wildly-popular vampire saga.

Much to the chagrin of Twilight series fans, she had to shelve the plan because of a copy of her manuscript was leaked, and in response, she published a draft comprising unedited manuscript online. Twilight fans have restlessly been waiting for her to complete and release the novel, while some continue to hazard a guess about the date it will finally be completed and released.

As if the unexplained countdown on Meyer's website wasn't enough to stir all sorts of speculations, independent production company Fickle Fish Films, which is co-founded by Meyer shared a short video of a stary sky with the words "5-days" on Twitter. For those unaware, Fickle Fish Films is known for transforming books into films.

On Thursday, the independent production company took to its office Twitter handle again, this time to tweet, "4 days." Excited Twitteratis took to the comments section noting that the hope the teased announcement was about "Midnight Sun."

Other Twitter users suggest the countdown could be a teaser to an equally-anticipated The Host sequel. Published by Meyer back in 2008, the Host is a book that focuses on parasitic aliens, which was converted into a film featuring Saoirse Ronan in 2013.

Three years after publishing The Host, Meyer a thriller about a former secret agent on the run dubbed as The Chemist. There's also hearsay that the tweet could hint at an entirely new book or film. Regrettably, fans will have to wait until Monday to find out more details about Meyer's next novel.
