The fine portrait of the Columbian Latin music star J Balvin in the form of a feature has been acquired by Amazon Studios. The Oscar-nominated documentary is based on the life of J Balvin – his struggle, rise, and success.

The Reggaeton star is one of the best selling Latin music artists having sold over 35 million records worldwide. Popularly known as the Prince of Reggaeton, Balvin’s style of music is innovative and often strikes as an encouragement for dancing.

The Boy From Medellin has been directed by Matthew Heineman who is famously known for directing the biopic Private War.

About Heineman, the head of international originals in Argentina, Chile, and Colombia for Amazon Studios said in a statement that Heineman is the one who is the mastermind behind such a beautiful depiction of  the “perspective of an international music icon.” She added on to say that Amazon studio is excited to have partnered up with Heineman to share the story of J Balvin with the world.

The Boy From Medellin has been executive produced Scooter Braun, Fabio Acosta, José Álvaro Osorio Balvín, Allison Kaye, Scott Manson, Jennifer McDaniels, Jenna Millman, and Juan Diego Villegas. Producers for the project are Heineman, Myles Estey, Juan Camilo Cruz, and Joedan Okun.

In addition to that, Endeavor Content has been behind the financing of the documentary and is also handling worldwide sales.

The project gives a great rundown of Balvin’s music career and has been hailed as a well-directed, well-presented film.

Even the musician couldn’t hold his emotions from getting shared, "Representing my country, my city and Latin culture globally is a lifelong pursuit and I'm so proud to be a son of Medellín. I'm honored to be able to tell my story in this beautiful way and working with Matthew on this project was an incredible experience. Thank you to Amazon for making sure this story can be seen around the world."

Amazon Studios has bagged a nice project, one that’s typical of Netflix’s. The battle of streamers is getting tense with every passing day and even a single good or bad element in that catalog is capable of making a world of a change.

With the rights to J Balvin’s documentary, Amazon Studios has, in fact, hit it for the fences. The Boy From Medellin is a kind of addition that will be watched over and over again, not only by Balvin fans but also by music-buffs.
