Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood has been making headlines since it’s the announcement. The duo of Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt boosted the popularity of the project to an unparalleled level – and the performance, of course, earned Tarantino’s project Academy award nominations.

Next, Chris Pine has again shifted the spotlight back to Once Upon A Time In Hollywood – and it’s not what anyone would expect - not the acting, not the screenplay, and not even Bruce Lee.

It’s, in fact, Pine’s grandmother Anne Gwynne whose performance in the movie is being remembered. Gwynne was a prominent Hollywood actress whose career spanned across four long decades between 1939 to 1970 – she was industry’s one of the first scream queens.

On the first-ever episode of Things Are Going Great With Me podcast with J. Claude Deering, Pine opened up about how his maternal grandmother is connected with Tarantino’s comedy-drama. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood features a scene from one of Gwynne’s popular movies and the crowd, on the set of Spahn Ranch, gathers around the television to watch it.

Chris admitted to not being able to identify the clip and who that belonged to, so his mother told him about his grandmother. As a matter of fact, it was a wonderful event how Pine found out that his grandmother was featured in the movie.

Recalling the moment how he figured out that it was one of her grandmother’s movie, Pine said, “I call my folks and ask them if they’d seen it. They saw it, loved it, and my mom says, ‘You know, that scene at the ranch [with Bruce Dern] and there’s a TV on?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I vaguely kind of remember this.’ But she said, ‘On the television is one of my mother’s films.’” So, I have yet to get in touch with [Tarantino]. It’s so sweet of him and I’m assuming that was done on purpose. My mother was ecstatic, just over the moon.”

Joking about Tarantino’s fondness for his grandmother, Pine said that he knows everything about her -  film names, co-stars, directors, production designers, which is nothing but unbelievable. Adding to that Pine recalled a moment of his mother and Tarantino at the Oscars, the 40-year-old actor said that Tarantino and his mother went on to converse for about 40 minutes on the award show, and he had to get “another martini.”

Chris Pine plans to meet Tarantino to talk about his grandmother.
