With the continuing rise of COVID-19 cases in America, killing and infecting millions of lives, it is no surprise that the organization behind the annual New York Comic Con event has announced its cancellation.

ReedPop made known on Aug. 12 (Wednesday) that the physical presence of the much-awaited event is canceled for this year. The gathering of various artists, scheduled to venue in Javits Center, Manhattan, will not be able to run as intended.

As per The Verge, quoting ReedPop’s statement, “It likely comes as no surprise that NYCC 2020’s physical event at the Javits will not be able to run as intended.”

This year’s edgy New York Comic Con event will storm over the American video streaming platform, Youtube. In a Hollywood Reporter article, the function and ReedPop partnered with Youtube by transforming the show into a virtual experience to the attendee and artists.

The running dates of the upcoming 2020 New York Comic Con will take place on Oct. 8 to 11, airing live on Youtube. The show will premiere and will get through live streams in various streaming panels.

For the time being, only three participants are announced by the organization, including “American Gods,” “Star Trek,” and “Hulu/FX.” Further details and the new set of participants will be made known in the coming weeks: this solely includes additional premier details and fan contests.

The renowned event fans are excited about the event’s watch parties, workshops, and virtual meet-and-greet, made possible by Youtube. Live chat features will also be made available to let the fans interact with the artists and creators, possibly asking questions and insights towards relevant topics.

Aside from workshops, an online marketplace will allow the fans and exhibitors to provide and ask autographs and videos while the event is going on.

Furthermore, the New York Comic Con hails as the second Metaverse event of ReedPop, following the online convention facilitated by the distinguished company on August 13 to 16. The nearing event will feature the stars and creators of “Star Trek” and “Supernatural,” and many more comics enthusiasts in various entertainment platforms. As per ReedPop, more virtual events are on the works planned to be rolled out in the next months.

The 2020 New York Comic Con is one of America’s major events that is canceled due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Some of them are SXSW, Google I/O, and E3. In April, the San Diego Comic-Con was the organization’s first cancellation in over fifty years.
