When Leslie Jones told Laverne Cox that she was nominated for the 2020 Emmy Awards, she was shocked and thought the comedian was making a mistake about her nomination. The actress admitted that being nominated for an Emmy is an honor, but hearing about the nomination from Jones was an even bigger honor.

Cox, along with Josh Gad, Tatiana Maslany, and Jones appeared on a live stream on Tuesday to take the wraps off the 2020 Emmy nominations. Just when the show was about to wrap up, Jones told Cox that she had been nominated for Guest Actress in a show.

Cox looked understandably confused and clueless about what Jones was saying. In a recent interview with E! News, the LGBTQ+ advocate confirmed that she was really confused. She recalls the moment as weird and awkward, thinking what Leslie was up to because she was nominated last year.

The 48-year-old actress described the moment as the "most awkward" one on live TV, adding that she has never had a more awkward moment in life. Cox did not expect to be nominated this year because she only made an appearance in one scene in Orange Is the New Black final season.

She was not expecting to be nominated this year, specifically because she was in one scene. Cox said she still felt someone made a mistake, but expressed her gratitude for the recognition, noting that she knows other actors vote for this and she feels it was incredible that her colleagues value the work.

Noting that she loves actors and what she does a lot, Cox said she is honored, but shocked at this year's unexpected nomination. Cox, and Jones were both overjoyed when Zendaya's name appeared as the nominee Lead Actress in a Drama, and Cox has nothing but appreciation for the Euphoria star.

Cox went on to say that she loves her work, adding that the show is groundbreaking and raw in more than just one way. She noted that Zendaya deserves to be nominated for her exquisite performance. Aside from that, Cox gave a shout out to Jeremy Pope, who made it to the nomination for his role in Hollywood.

She said it was hard for her to keep a straight face while reading the nomination, as she realizes that it is an extremely exciting moment, particularly for first-time nominees. She said it was her dream to be nominated and to win an Emmy for a long time since she was a little kid growing in Alabama. She was excited about getting to present and being nominated again.
