Prince Charles could, reportedly, cause problems and struggles to the royal family if he pushes through with his plans to have a slimmed-down monarchy.

While speaking with Express, royal commentator Phil Dampier said that Prince Charles initially wanted to have a slimmed-down monarchy because the younger members of the royal family already turned into adults.

However, the heir to the throne couldn’t have anticipated that the monarchy would already be slimmed down even before he ascends the throne.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are already in their 90s. And Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles are already in their 70s. As such, they don’t have much to live.

The next generation of senior royals includes Prince William and Kate Middleton. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle already quit The Firm in January. And Prince Andrew also took a step back from his royal duties.

Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and Sophie, Countess of Wessex are the only senior working royals other than the queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Cornwalls, and the Cambridges.

According to Dampier, pushing for an even more slimmed-down monarchy could cause problems because it will be hard to fit all the jobs.

However, Juliet Rieden previously told Today that she still thinks that Prince Charles will head towards that direction. After all, he has always wanted to have a slimmed-down monarchy for years.

“When Prince Charles becomes King he will slim down the monarchy to a core group, which is largely his own family and their wives and children. I think that is a good move because the British public does not want to be paying taxpayer money for someone who they see as bringing the monarchy into disrepute,” Rieden said.

Meanwhile, Dampier said that some younger members of the royal family may be expected to step up. For instance, Prince Edward’s children, Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn can eventually take on royal duties on behalf of the monarch.

Prince Edward’s wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex is already taking on more royal duties. And she has also been making public appearances.

Unfortunately, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie cannot be of much help to the royal family. After all, they both have their respective jobs and are not considered as senior working royals.

Princess Anne’s children cannot also perform royal duties because their mom opted to give them normal lives instead of royal titles.
