Selena Gomez, 30, opened up about the harsh realities of growing up in the limelight and the impact it had on her mental health. After sharing photos of herself enjoying a night out after the Golden Globes in January, she faced cruel comments about her weight.

Selena later explained in a February TikTok Live that her weight fluctuates due to medications she takes for lupus, stating, "My medications are important, and I believe that they're what helps me."

Despite trying to brush off the criticism, Selena confessed on the March 10 episode of Apple TV+'s Dear... that the hate and body shaming over the years left her "crying my eyes out because nobody deserves to hear those things."

A source revealed that the former child star has admitted to her friends that fame almost destroyed her, saying, "I've been lying to my fans for years."

In 2016, Selena sought help at a Tennessee mental health facility, addressing her depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. However, her mental health declined further in 2018 when she experienced psychosis and was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Selena revealed that she has been to four treatment centers and contemplated suicide.

Simultaneously, Selena faced a physical health crisis with a kidney transplant due to lupus complications in 2017 and struggled with a tumultuous on-off relationship with pop star Justin Bieber from 2010 to 2018. She later alleged that she was a victim of emotional abuse during their relationship.

Bieber, who married model Hailey Baldwin shortly after his final split from Selena, admitted to abusing his past relationships.

Selena has since found healing and even posed with Hailey in October to dispel rumors of a long-standing feud. A source noted that the Rare Beauty founder is at peace with that part of her life and is focusing on her health and career, including acting, producing, making music, expanding her cosmetics brand, and advocating for mental health. "It's all about having a clean slate," the source said, adding that Selena is looking forward to the future.
