Zoe Kravitz has broken her silence regarding the backlash over her comments on the Oscars slap incident. She appears to have some regrets about how she handled it and wishes to have done it “differently.”

In an interview with WSJ Magazine for her cover story on its Fall 2022 Women’s Fashion issue, the 33-year-old actress addressed the online criticisms she received. She said that the comments reminded her of being an artist, and that being one “is not about everybody loving you or everyone thinking you’re hot.”

For the “Big Little Lies” actress, being an artist is “about expressing something that will hopefully spark a conversation or inspire people or make them feel seen.” She continued that she is “in a place right now where [she] does not want to express [herself] through a caption or a tweet.”

Instead, Zoe Kravitz wants to express herself “through art.”

The “Batman” star also shared her thoughts about sharing an opinion in this day and age on social media.

People, in its coverage of the exchange, quoted the celebrity, saying, “It’s a scary time to have an opinion or to say the wrong thing or to make controversial art or statements or thoughts or anything.”

Zoe Kravitz explained that it is “mostly scary because art is about conversation,” and it should “always be the point” of it.

But, for her, “the internet is the opposite of conversation.” She asserted that the online space is where people put things out and do not take anything in.

Elsewhere, the “Divergent” actress said of her comments about the infamous Oscars 2022 incident that she has “very complicated feelings around it.” In the end, she shared her wish of handling it “differently” before noting that it is “okay” to have such thoughts.

The public would recall that Zoe Kravitz made her feelings about the Oscars slap incident known and clear following the event in March.

On Instagram, the celebrity shared a photo of herself featuring her look and ensemble for the night. She captioned the post, writing, “Here’s a picture of my dress at the show where we are apparently assaulting people on stage now.”

In another photo, Kravitz continued her thoughts, writing, “And here is a picture of my dress at the party after the award show where we are apparently screaming profanities and assaulting people on stage now.”

Reports said that the posts have since been deleted.
