Tom Selleck is coming back to reprise his role of Frank Reagan in the already-renewed season 12 of Blue Bloods. The actor has been at the front and center of the police procedural drama, but a few reports emerged claiming that his health is declining while filming the CBS series.

Back in February 2019, National Enquirer reported that Selleck was suffering an “incurable disease”. At the time, the outlet noted that his condition has gotten worse, and while filming Blue Bloods, they hired a stunt double to help him with some scenes – such as opening doors.

A source from the tabloid also asserted that the actor has to step away from the series in order to deal with his condition. However, this claim was proved to be false a year ago, and the said “incurable disease” turned out to be arthritis.

But then, the same publication published again another story about Selleck’s arthritis in January 2021. Allegedly, he is taking steroids for a long time already to help him with his movements and ease the pain. Then, it added that one of the possible side effects of his condition is vision loss.

“Macho Tom is falling apart before our eyes,” the unnamed insider said.

Shortly after this claim, OK! reported that Selleck has grown tired of the Hollywood grind and he is now ready to retire. The actor is allegedly having a hard time breathing while he’s on the set and they had to take breaks between shoots to “recover his stamina.”

“He’s tired of the grind, and the show just takes more and more out of him every season,” the source of the tabloid said.

Just like National Enquirer’s stories, these claims have been confirmed to be inaccurate. In fact, Selleck said in an interview with People in 2020 said that he could see a long-term future of the then-season 10 of Blue Bloods. The actor hasn’t said anything about him leaving the series anytime soon.

But, although these reports have been busted already, other publications keep on publishing stories about Selleck and his body. For instance, Globe claimed in March that the actor was struggling to walk due to his weight – pointing out he gained 100 pounds.

The article provided a photo of clothed Selleck vs. a shirtless Selleck. Yet, it should be noted that the latter snap was taken about 40 years ago. The actor’s physique has changed over the past decades, especially now that he’s in his late 70s.
