Taylor Swift has much to rejoice about this year. Evermore, the singer’s second surprise studio album of the year has been on the top of the Billboard 200 chart.

Evermore, which was dropped in December, has also emerged as one of the year’s highest-selling albums. The surprise album managed to sell more than one million copies within a week of its release.

Billboard’s statistics for the numbers of the album are based on the sales of her physical album, as well as the virtual song streams.

This is not the only reason for Swift to smile this year. Her previous surprise studio album Folklore was dropped in July. It earned the distinction of being the years’ highest-selling album.

Evermore is the eighth album of Swift and has sold more than a million copies within the first week since it was released. Its single Willow is on the top spot of the Hot 100 chart, according to Daily Mail

Evermore was first dropped on different music streaming platforms, as well as on the Love Story hitmaker’s website. The CDs for this studio album were only made available from Dec. 18, 2020. In a way, the climb of Evermore was based on these streaming platforms only, according to Republic World

Evermore is being tipped as the “sister album” of Folklore and became the biggest album debut of this year. Meanwhile, Folklore bagged a nomination at the Grammy Awards’ Album of the Year Award while her song Cardigan has been nominated in the category of the Song of the Year.

Incidentally, Taylor Swift is not the only musician whose two consecutive albums have topped the charts in 2020. Before her, the American rapper YoungBoy Never Broke Again and the Korean pop band BTS also had two albums, which have been in Number 1 slots this year.

Swift had earlier revealed that the lyrics of a few of her songs in Folklore and Evermore had been penned by her longtime beau Joe Alwyn under a pseudonym. The Blank Space hitmaker also confessed that both she and her boyfriend are fond of sad songs.

It looks like the lockdown had been a blessing in disguise for Alwyn, who could pen such wonderful lyrics. The songstress’ recent release has been recorded while she was in quarantine. It was a time when she also recorded her numbers for the album, Folklore

Evermore’s release is a continuation of her distancing from her previous pop-oriented sound. She collaborated with many other artists for this studio album, such as The National, Bon Iver, and HAIM. Jack Antonoff also collaborated as the producer and a songwriter.

In other news, Taylor Swift shared a photo on her Instagram handle that showed her backside. This would eventually emerge as the cover of her album Evermore. The studio album was dropped two days before her birthday.
