Things are not going well for estranged husband and wife Tom Girardi and Erika Jayne as their legal troubles continue to pile up. The most recent development involves Girardi being charged with contempt.

People reports that U.S. District Judge Thomas Durkin has ordered Girardi and his law firm Girardi & Keese to pay $500,000 each to four clients whose family members died in the 2018 crash of Lion Air Flight 610.

Durkin described the $2 million payment as “a simple way” to fix the situation and said it was just compensation for the victims' families. The “significant” amount of money, according to Durkin, would change the families’ lives.

Page Six adds that the lawsuit comes in the midst of Girardi’s divorce from his wife, Erika Jayne. Edelson PC, who brought the class action lawsuit against Girardi, called the divorce a sham and said it was a way for the couple to protect their finances.

The firm says that Girardi’s law firm is practically bankrupt because of its debts and is fast running out of funds. The firm also alleges that the payment for the Lion Air Flight 610 victims, which Girardi has failed to pay, was instead used to fund the couple’s lavish lifestyles.

Sham divorce or not, Girardi and Jayne’s separation is still ongoing, with Girardi responding to Jayne’s divorce filing. In Jayne’s filing, she asked for spousal support from her ex-husband and him to take care of her attorney’s fees.

In his response, Girardi refused to pay for spousal support and also asked her to pay for his attorney’s fees. Court documents also showed that “irreconcilable differences” is the cause being cited by Girardi as the reason for their divorce.

Girardi and Jayne aren’t the only Hollywood couples engaged in bitter divorce negotiations. Musician and talk show host Kelly Clarkson is also engaged in one with former husband, music manager Brandon Blackstock.

In his filing, Blackstock is demanding that Clarkson pay him a monthly total of $436,000 for spousal and child support. Of that $436,000, spousal support makes up $301,000, while child support is $135,000.

Engaged in a more amicable separation are Clark Gregg and Jennifer Grey, who are also divorcing after almost two decades of marriage. The couple agreed on Grey, keeping all of her earnings from the two Dirty Dancing movies. Fifty percent of Gregg’s earnings as Agent Coulson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will also be going to Grey.
