Many fans are excited for the arrival of Sweet Magnolias Season 2. The American romantic drama series produced by Netflix has gained popularity for its very interesting storyline and adorable characters. However, new reports suggested that viewers would have to wait a little longer before the imminent second installment hit the small screens.

Is Sweet Magnolias Season 2 still happening?

The life stories of Maddie (JoAnna Garcia), Dana (Brooke Elliot), and Helen (Heather Headley) captured the hearts of many, making the show an instant hit with fans upon its release. As a matter of fact, Netflix ordered a Sweet Magnolias Season 2 due to its demand and large followings.

Showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson even told PEOPLE Magazine that she demanded Netflix to renew the series right away after she read the script for the series’ 10th episode. She said that, though the scene wherein Kyle stole Tyler’s car and crashed into a tree was not written in the book, it was the best way to end the show’s first season. Luckily, Sweet Magnolias Season 2 is confirmed to happen very soon.

However, what’s heartbreaking is that fans would have to extend their patience because no scenes for Sweet Magnolias Season 2 have been filmed up to this writing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Like any other shows, the series’ production was put on a halt to prioritize the entire cast and crew's safety as the world continues to battle against the deadly coronavirus.

Anderson divulged to Parade that the team has not started shooting yet, even if they wanted to get back to the show as quickly as possible. However, she stated that they are still working on the details of the much-awaited Sweet Magnolias Season 2. The showrunner vowed that the imminent installment would bring viewers to places that will “engage, delight and comfort” them.

Who will return in Sweet Magnolias Season 2?

Besides its three main characters – Maddie, Dana, and Helen, other characters expected to return in the upcoming new installment include Noreen (Jamie Lynn Spears), Annie (Anneliese Judge), Kyle (Logan Allen), Tyler (Carson Rowland), and Bill (Chris Klein). Ryan (Michael Shenefelt), Erik (Dion Johnstone), Isaac (Chris Medlin), Ronnie (Brandon Quinn), and Nellie (Simone Lockhart), per Daily Spy, are also likely to appear in Sweet Magnolias Season 2.

The forthcoming installment is predicted to have a total of 10 episodes, just like the first season. However, with the present global health crisis, it remains to be seen as to when fans should expect the show to premiere on Netflix.
