Prince Philip, reportedly, tried to help save Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage years ago.

In the documentary Philip: The King Without A Crown, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said that Prince Philip took the initiative to counsel the Prince and Princess of Wales after learning that they were having problems in their marriage.

The Duke of Edinburgh exchanged countless handwritten letters with Princess Diana. And the late royal even praised him for his ability to give wonderful marriage advice.

But despite his attempts to help Prince Charles and Princess Diana. The couple still got a divorce in 1997.

In the documentary, royal expert Dickie Arbiter said that Prince Philip must have felt that it was not just a family duty but also a public duty to try and convince Prince Charles and Princess Diana to talk to each other.

But when his efforts to try and get them to reconcile didn’t work, Prince Philip couldn’t help but feel frustrated. The dad of four wasn’t also thrilled with the fall out of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s marriage, as well as the union of Princess Anne and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips.

According to Bond, Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth felt that it was very difficult that their three children’s marriages ended in divorce. The royal commentator also said that Prince Philip must have felt frustrated because his children couldn’t save their respective marriages.

After all, he and the queen have been married for over seven decades. And even though their marriage was also challenging, the royal couple managed to weather every storm that got in their way.

Meanwhile, Prince Philip couldn’t be happier that his youngest son Prince Edward’s marriage continues to work. While speaking with Express, body language expert Judi James also weighed in on Prince Philip and Sophie Wessex’s relationship.

She said that Sophie is very similar to Princess Anne because they rarely complain, and they just get things done. Sophie also, reportedly, appears like a healthy match for Prince Philip because she’s not intimidated by him.

Sophie hasn’t also shown signs that she wanted to impress her father-in-law in the same way that Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson did. But her strong marriage to Prince Philip’s “problem child” was more than enough reason for the 99-year-old retire royal to be impressed with her.

Prince Edward wed Sophie in 1999 after dating for a couple of years. They also lived together briefly before they tied the knot.
