The British royal family has one Christmas tradition that has been made famous over the years. The tradition of spending Christmas Eve as one whole unit in the Queen’s Norfolk home has been going on for over 32 years now but things may change this year.

Rumors have been circulating that the royal family will be skipping the Church at Sandringham on Christmas Day.

It is a custom known to many that the royal family spends two church services over the festive holiday. One is in private while another ceremony is spent at St. Mary Magdalene Church.

Well-wishers attend the ceremony in hopes of seeing the Queen and other royal members. This royal activity has given royal fans iconic photos.

Two years ago, Meghan Markle’s appearance as an official working royal produced the infamous ‘fab four’ photos. Prince William and Kate Middleton joined her and husband Prince Harry on the walkway going to the church steps.

That would be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s final Christmas Holiday with the royal firm.

News of the royal family not keeping to their traditional plans for this year has unsettled many loyal fans but a spokesperson from Buckingham Palace has spoken up about the issue.

According to DailyMail UK reports, it is too early to make Christmas plans for the Queen and her family. They are said to be reviewing all the possible outlets to ensure the church service's tradition will proceed as planned.

The UK is currently under the ‘rule of six,’ a rule passed by the Prime Minister to minimize gathering in light of the COVID pandemic.

Royal Advisors are hoping that the rule will be eased up in the coming months to enable the royal family to have a reunion on Christmas.

There is also the situation of the royal goers who will make sure to see the royal family. Last year over 1500 royal fans greeted the family on the steps of St. Mary Magdalene.

Apparently, if the service will not push through, this will only be the third time the Queen will not be able to attend. The first one was in her second year as a monarch, where she was in New Zealand for her royal tour, and the second one was because she had a very bad cold.

It is unsure whether the rumors are true, but we can only hope that the royal family can continue their tradition this coming Christmas holiday.
