Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s life is somewhat shrouded in secrecy. Although a very public couple, due to the nature of their work and their status, not a lot of people really know what goes on between the two royals.

Their love story was one of a kind and already from the get-go Queen Elizabeth has expressed that she was always going to end up with Prince Philip.

Their wedding ceremony back in 1947 was the first-ever royal wedding to be recorded and telecasted. This catapulted the British royal family to the world stage, the beginning of now a massive firm with a worldwide platform.

So the question is, why does Queen Elizabeth wear her wedding band, but Prince Philip does not?

It all boils down on the preference of each royal. As history tells it, Prince Philip’s engagement ring given to the then Princess Elizabeth is one that has a significant story.

The mother of Prince Philip, Princess Alice of Greece, knew that her son was going to marry the future Queen of England. Due to their family’s awful financial status, after the Greek royal family was abolished, Princess Alice gave Prince Philip their family’s tiara.

The Duke of Edinburgh commissioned jewelers Philip Antrobus Ltd. to create the engagement ring of Queen Elizabeth. The Queen has worn this band since their marriage in 1947 until now.

For the Duke of Edinburgh, he does wear one band around his ring finger, but not from his wedding. Prince Philip wears a signet ring of their family around his wedding finger.

For the other royals, their decision to wear a band or not is also given to them as a choice.

Prince Charles had worn his wedding band when he was married to the late Princess Diana together with his signet ring, and now that he is married to Camilla Parker-Bowles, he practices the same.

Prince Harry also wore his wedding band after his marriage to Meghan Markle back in 2018. He also chose to leave the royal folds, which is a decision not highly regarded by the royal members.

Prince William, on the other hand, does not wear any wedding band and not even a signet ring. This was a choice by William that he discussed thoroughly with his wife, Kate Middleton and the royal palace.

Before the nuptials of Prince William and Kate, the Palace already announced Prince William’s decision not to wear a wedding ring.
