Joe Biden returned to the campaign trail, and the former vice president's campaign announced he will be visiting several states, including Michigan. The state’s Republican House speaker, Lee Chatfield has warned him about visiting the state almost ten weeks in advance.

Chatfield made the remark reacting to Biden's campaign announcing the former veep's plan to visit Michigan, a crucial battleground state, on Wednesday. In an interview on Fox & Friends Weekend on Sunday, Chatfield recalled that people in the state voted for Democrats in earlier elections, but the 2016 election went to Donald Trump.

He recalled that the state has not been won by a Republican on the presidential ballot since 1988. He attributed this to two reasons including the Democrat left being radical and progressive, and Trump's focus on an economic message.

The show's host Will Cain noted that in 2016 Hillary Clinton received a lot of criticism for not focusing on Michigan, and ended up losing it to Trump. Chatfield said Republicans in the state are waiting with bated breath to vote for Trump.

Cain asked Chatfield why he thinks Democrats have refrained from focusing on Michigan during the last election cycles. “I just think Democrats have taken our state for granted,” Chatfield responded, recalling that the state went blue in presidential elections for thirty consecutive years.

Chatfield said Democrats are scared but they need to figure out how do they give voters and worked in Michigan the attention and prove they are the party not run by the Progressive left and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Chatfield said Democrats are not focusing on jobs, or the economy and failing to appeal to the Michigan workers.

He went on to explain that Michigan workers have to decide who is capable of doing a better job at restoring the country's economy and making jobs available. When faced with a choice between Trump and Biden, Chatfield said they chose Trump in the past, adding that he thinks they will choose him again.

Trump will be visiting Michigan on Thursday, the day after Biden's campaign visits the state. Chatfield deemed Michigan a blue-collar state, which he said means people in the state do not support socialism or defunding the police.

Comparing the policies of Trump and Biden, Chatfield said the president signed USMCA, which is good for Michigan workers, as well as Midwestern workers. He described Biden as a reflection of what he passed in the Senate with the old NAFTA plan, which didn't prove to be good for the nation.
