The multi-hyphenate of Hollywood, Kevin Smith is teaming up with ‘Peanuts’ owner WildBrain to hammer out a new series based on the popular superhero franchise, Green Hornet.

The animated series is being aimed at the family audience upholding the original comic book essence of the superhero.  The series will depict the extraordinary escapades of refashioned Britt Reid and his incredible valet Kato and the setting will be contemporary which means more high-tech action and sci-fi kind drama.

Kevin Smith has been a die-hard Green Hornet fan. Once he had the opportunity to stitch out a screenplay for Miramax based on Green Hornet, but unfortunately, the project could never be materialized – eventually recreated by Michael Gondry and starred Seth Rogen to be released in the year 2011.

The film couldn’t flick the wonder on the big-screen failing to impress critics and Green Hornet fans. Apparently, Smith spotted an opportunity and is prepared to take a crack at it one more time.

Smith has been kind enough to give us a glimpse of what the animated series might look like. In conversation with media, Smith said, “It’s an honor to escort the legendary Green Hornet and Kato into their very own animated series for the first time in the rich history of these iconic pop culture characters! We’ll be telling a tale of two Hornets – past and future – that spans generations and draws inspiration from a lifetime spent watching classic cartoons and amazing animation like Batman: The Animated Series …”

In addition to talking about the background of the series,  Smith has also thanked WildBrain for joining hands with him to work on this masterpiece. The filmmaker has highlighted that it’s a way for him to extend and rather live his childhood again.

WildBrain is excited to have chosen Smith to help in the reimagination of the character. The production company is counting on Kevin’s unreal love for comic stories to transform Green Hornet animated series into an intriguing adventuresome journey for superhero-nuts.

Green Hornet has a very rich history and Smith’s experiment with the character may stand synonymous with ‘enhanced legacy’.  For fans who just can’t get enough of superheroes, the Green Hornet animated series is something to look forward to.

Green Hornet has come a long-long way from a radio series to Bruce Lee to the animation. It will be great to see what is cooking at WildBrain and it will definitely not be available very soon.
