The Queen Mother, reportedly, became jealous of Queen Elizabeth after she became the queen of Britain in 1952.

In the documentary, The Private Lives of Windsor, royal biographer Christopher Warwick said that the Queen Mother and King George VI were just 51 and 56 years old when the monarch ascended the throne.

“So, she felt they'd been cut off in her prime, she loved the position of being Queen and suddenly all that was taken from her. The Queen mother minded very much being Queen Mother, and she was jealous of her daughter having become Queen,” he said.

Prince Philip didn’t immediately get the Queen Mother’s approval when he and Queen Elizabeth first started dating.

In the series The Private Lives of Windsor, royal historian and biographer Jane Ridley said that the late royal saw the Duke of Edinburgh as a dangerously progressive man.

The two senior royals also clashed on multiple occasions because Prince Philip challenged the Queen Mother’s authority as the royal family’s matriarch.

Since the late royal was also close to Queen Elizabeth, the monarch was, reportedly, caught in between her mother and husband. After all, the Queen Mother saw her son-in-law as her enemy.

The Queen Mother also had other issues with Prince Philip because he was considered a foreigner. He didn’t also have a financial standing, which was frowned up decades ago.

It was also revealed that Prince Philip’s sisters married a German nobleman that had links to the Nazis. And they also, reportedly, fought for them. As such, the Queen Mother had huge concerns about the Duke of Edinburgh.

Additionally, the Queen Mother and Prince Philip’s perspective on things were also very different. The former was old-fashioned and traditional, while the latter was more progressive.

One of their biggest disagreements had to do with Prince Charles’ education. According to royal historian Piers Brandon, the Duke of Edinburgh wanted to make a man of his eldest son. As such, he was keen on sending the heir to the throne to Gordonstoun.

The Queen Mother, on the other hand, was concerned for Prince Charles’ wellbeing. Since she was very close to her grandson, she felt that Prince Charles needed nurturing, sympathy, and compassion. She, reportedly, wanted Prince Charles to study at Eton.

However, Queen Elizabeth decided to follow her husband’s wish by sending Prince Charles to Gordonstoun. While there, the future king, reportedly, had a miserable time.
