Meghan Markle and Queen Elizabeth’s feud, allegedly, only started after Archie’s christening.

When Markle first joined the royal family in 2017, she forged a wonderful relationship with the monarch. However, everything changed after the queen and Prince Philip skipped Archie’s baptism in July 2019.

In the book Royals at War, authors Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett said that the queen was unable to attend the christening because of previous engagements. Prince Philip, on the other hand, is already retired so he isn’t expected to always make public appearances.

“The queen and Prince Philip had been generous and understanding but they simply now felt publicly embarrassed by Meghan’s controlling behavior. Meghan felt extremely offended by the fact that the monarch decided not to go,” they said.

More details about the alleged snub are included in the Royals at War. However, Markle and the queen have not publicly addressed the alleged issue. After all, the queen is known for her mantra of “never explain, never complain.”

In fact, this stand has been one of Markle’s issues with the queen and the royal family. In her lawsuit against Mail on Sunday, Markle revealed that she felt unprotected by the institution.

She also said that five of her friends decided to come to her defense after they realized that Markle wasn’t allowed to speak up.

A source told People that the palace’s position has always been to not comment and ignore stories from tabloids. This way, the rumors will just die down naturally.

“The palace teams are faced with the difficulty that when things go wrong — particularly on private life matters — quite often any action taken with the media makes it worse,” the source continued. “It’s not that the royal household doesn’t want to help — more that they don’t want to make it worse by giving a gossipy story more oxygen,” the source said.

However, this tactic didn’t work for Markle. Even though she never responded to the tabloid’s claims, the criticisms and rumors surrounding her and Prince Harry didn’t die down.

In a documentary in 2019, Markle said that she tried her best to follow adopt the British sensibility of having a stiff upper lip. However, it wasn’t always easy.

“But I think that what that does internally is probably really damaging,” she said.

Even after Markle’s revelation, the royal family still, reportedly, didn’t do anything to help her out. As such, she and Prince Harry decided to quit The Firm in January.
