Reese Witherspoon has officially filed for divorce from her husband of 12 years, Jim Toth, citing irreconcilable differences. Court documents reveal that asset distribution should not be an issue, as the couple signed a prenuptial agreement in March 2011. The prenup is said to provide "adequate and sufficient provisions" for their assets and debts.

The couple filed for divorce in Nashville, Tennessee, where they were raising their 10-year-old child. Witherspoon will present the prenup and a permanent parenting plan for their child's care to the judge for approval.

As required by Davidson County in divorce cases involving a child, Reese and Jim must now enroll in a mandatory parenting class and submit a certificate of completion to the court within 60 days.

The actress announced the split with her actor/producer husband on Instagram earlier this week, stating that they had given the difficult decision to divorce much thought. She reminisced about their love and respect for each other and emphasized that their son remains their top priority.

Sources close to the couple suggest that they had grown apart, with Witherspoon's busy career leaving them with less time together. While both are driven, insiders note that Witherspoon, with her production company Type A Films, is "headstrong and focused," while Toth, a former executive at talent agency CAA, is more "laid-back."

Witherspoon has been spending more time in Nashville, where she has been involved in various film and television projects, including Apple TV's singing competition, My Kind of Country.

Despite the end of their marriage, sources say the couple remains committed to amicable co-parenting for the sake of their son, Tennessee James Toth.
