Reese Witherspoon allegedly plans to produce a country singing reality TV show that would compete with The Voice.

National Enquirer, in its Feb. 13 issue, claimed that Witherspoon’s upcoming project should have the mentors and contestants of The Voice worried.

The Voice has gotten great ratings over 22 seasons, but the one thing the show has not done is have a winner go on to have a big singing career. Reese is confident with her team, they’re going to find a superstar – and her show is going to be must-watch TV,” the source said.

The source added that Witherspoon is confident that her new TV show will be able to find someone like Kelly Clarkson. The latter was discovered after winning American Idol and she has released some of the biggest records in the United States as of late.

According to the source, former The Voice coach Blake Shelton also secretly wished Witherspoon well after learning about her upcoming TV show.

“He told Reese he hopes her show is a big stinkin’ hit and he’ll be happy to go on it to help her out,” the source said.

However, one should take the tabloid’s claims with a grain of salt. It’s not true that Witherspoon has plans to produce a TV show that will compete with The Voice.

And there’s also no indication that she got Shelton’s blessing. Even if Shelton already announced his retirement from The Voice after over 20 seasons, he is still loyal to the program because it has done wonders for his career.

It is also important to note that Shelton first met his wife Gwen Stefani on the set of The Voice so it’s unlikely for him to completely turn his back on the reality TV competition just because he quit.

The tabloid’s claims that The Voice has not discovered a singer whose career blew up after joining the NBC show aren’t true either. After all, several The Voice winners succeeded in their music careers after bringing home the prestigious title.

As of late, Witherspoon is also gearing up for the upcoming release of her new Netflix movie Your Place Or Mine with Ashton Kutcher. The actress also has other projects lined up so it’s unlikely for her to venture into the singing competition arena for now.
