Meghan Markle reportedly talked about the treatment she experienced before and after her relationship with Prince Harry became public knowledge.

In the latest episode of her podcast, “Archetypes,” the former working royal had Mariah Carey as her guest. She told her that she started to understand the impact of her skin color on her life when she began dating the royal-born Prince, according to Express UK.

The Duchess of Sussex reportedly explained that the treatment toward her and others who are “light-skinned” are “so different.” She is said to have noted that they are “not treated as a white woman” and not “as a black woman,” adding that they are “sort of in between.”

Meghan Markle reportedly continued, though, that this “really shifted” when her relationship with Prince Harry became public. She is noted to have claimed that she “started to understand what it was like to be treated like a black woman” because up until then, she said she “had been treated like a mixed woman.”

The publication quoted a part of the former working royal’s statement, saying, “If there’s any time in my life that’s been more focused on my race, it’s only once I’ve started dating my husband.”

The new episode of the Duchess of Sussex’s podcast comes about a day after her cover feature for New York magazine’s “The Cut” surfaced.

Meghan Markle shared several things about her life, especially post-royal, living in the United States. But, aside from her new life in her home country, she also looked back at a few things from her time as a working royal.

At one point in the exchange, the former “Suits” actress told the magazine that “there is literally a structure” within the Firm. She recalled the time she had to give pictures of her eldest child to the Royal Rota, which is the press pool that covers Queen Elizabeth II and her line of succession.

Meghan Markle consequently revealed that she hated having to share family photos with the media outlets whose readers call her children “the N-word.”

Page Six quoted the former working royal, rhetorically asking, “Why would I give the very people that are calling my children the N-word a photo of my child before I can share it with people that love my child?”

It continues, “You tell me how that makes sense and then I’ll play that game.”

Following the publication of the cover feature on Monday, several experts, commentators, and commenters expressed their thoughts on various media platforms. While some seemingly praised the Duchess of Sussex, others criticized her for her claims.
