Netflix renewed “The Umbrella Academy” for another installment. But, the new and upcoming fourth season of the show will serve as its final run to conclude the running plot.

Mail Online reported that the announcement came from the streaming giant on Thursday. It comes two months after the series’ third season dropped on the platform.

No further details have come to light with regard to the fourth season of the title. But, in a statement to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Steve Blackman assured the fandom that the show’s final run will provide an “amazing” course before it exits the small screens.

The outlet quoted the series head, saying, “I’m so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings’ journey we began five years ago.”

It continues, “But before we get to that conclusion, we’ve got an amazing story ahead for [Season 4], one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes.”

Following the announcement on Thursday, Screen Rant released a report, explaining why “The Umbrella Academy” is ending on its fourth season run. It noted that while it is “understandably sad for viewers” and fans, “it makes a lot of sense.”

The outlet recalled that showrunner Stephen Blackman had already revealed in the past that if the series returned for a fourth installment, it would be the final season. Accordingly, it is “good” for the material to end on its own terms.

But, what reportedly makes much more sense is that the approaching conclusion is fitting for the series characters.

The publication pointed out that the Hargreeves’ siblings “have worked through a lot of pain and trauma” following “The Umbrella Academy” Season 3. Hence, continuing the show much longer “would mean revisiting the same ideas and storylines with many of these characters.”

Meanwhile, Deadline said the main cast members, who play the Hargreeves’ siblings on the show, will reprise their roles for the fourth and final season. These include Tom Hopper (Number 1/Luther), David Castaneda (Number 2/Diego), Emmy Raver-Lampman (Number 3/Allison), Robert Sheehan (Number 4/Klaus), Aidan Gallagher (Number 5), Justin H. Min (Umbrella Number 6/Sparrow Number 2/Ben), and Elliot Page (Umbrella 7/Vanya-turned-Viktor).

Other cast members who will reprise the roles for Season 4 are Ritu Arya and Colm Feore. As for Season 3 regulars Adam Godley, Genesis Rodriguez, and Britne Oldford, their statuses remain unclear as their characters’ fates “were left uncertain” at the end of the last installment.
