Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow recently proved that some exes can be good friends.

During an interview with Goop, Paltrow and Pitt had the opportunity to reminisce about their past relationship. The exes dated between 1994 and 1997. And they even got engaged at one point.

However, Pitt and Paltrow didn’t end up at the altar because they decided to split just before they tied the knot.

Pitt went on to date and marry Jennifer Aniston but they also ended up divorcing each other. And then the actor met Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith and they also tied the knot years later.

During the interview, Paltrow wanted Pitt to share what it was like getting to know her late father, Bruce Paltrow. After all, the Shallow Hal star revealed that Bruce adored Pitt and thought of him as his son.

“Okay, since it's almost Father's Day, I'm going to ask you about Bruce. I'll never forget when we were engaged and he came to me one day, his eyes full of tears, and he said, "You know, I never really realized what they mean when they say you're gaining a son. Like, I'm gaining a son,” Paltrow said.

The actress then asked Pitt what impact her dad had on her ex-boyfriend and why he loved him dearly even though they didn’t end up marrying each other.

Before responding to the question, Pitt said that everything works out in the end. And Paltrow couldn’t agree more. The actress also said that she happily found the Brad that she was supposed to be with because she’s married to Brad Falchuk.

Upon hearing this, Pitt said that it’s lovely to have Paltrow as one of his closest friends before saying he loves her. To this, Paltrow replied that she loves him too.

The Ad Astra then answered Paltrow’s question about what he loved most about Bruce and said that loved how fair he was. He also said that he was impressed with how Bruce raised his children.

“Me too. I mean, he was my father, but he was very much a mentor. He loved being that role for the people that he really loved, and you were definitely one of them,” Paltrow chimed in (via Daily Mail).
