An Oscar snub sent Jennifer Lopez in tears back in 2020. She did not get a nomination for her role in “Hustlers.”

The Independent UK stated that the songstress was “highly commended” for her acting stint as a scheming strip club hostess in the film. Many were even certain that she was up for a Best Supporting Actress nomination from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

But, after realizing the snub, it sent her to tears behind closed doors. Fans and followers recently witnessed the moment when the official trailer for her upcoming Netflix documentary, “Halftime,” emerged on Wednesday.

In the material, Jennifer Lopez was in bed, crying while looking at her phone. She then says in a voiceover that “it was hard,” adding that she had a “very low self-esteem.”

The “Marry Me” star continues that she “had to really figure out who [she] was and believe in that and not believe in anything else.”

The Oscar nominations for the Best Supporting Actress category in 2020 went to five actresses. These are Florence Pugh, Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie, Kathy Bates, and Laura Dern, with the latter winning the gong for her role in “Marriage Story.”

The full extent of the "On The Floor" singer's Oscar-related struggle is revealed in the upcoming documentary. Reports noted that it will drop on the streaming giant’s platform on June 14.

In 2021, Jennifer Lopez spoke about the matter during an interview with Allure. She revealed that the missing nomination from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences “was a sting.”

The 52-year-old celebrity consequently shared what her thoughts were at the time. She stated, “when you’re supposedly in everybody else’s mind supposed to be nominated and you’re not, what does that mean?”

Lopez continued, “Is it really real? Are the other ones real and this one isn’t?”

The songstress argued, however, that she came to the point wherein she thought nominations and awards are not the reasons why she does what she does. “I don’t do this to have ten Oscars sitting on my mantel or 20 Grammys.”

Jennifer Lopez has “long struggled with self-doubt” when it comes to her career, according to the New York Post. As noted, she shared the matter to The Washington Post in 2018.

The “Let’s Get Loud” artist revealed that it hurt her “for a long time.” She pointed out the individuals who were doubtful of her skills and capabilities to sing, dance, and act, adding that they only thought of her as a “pretty face, or her butt is big.”

Despite these things, though, Lopez emphasized that she “kept going.” She said she could not allow herself “to let that become who [she] was.”
