Cillian Murphy is taking up the lead and titular role of Christopher Nolan’s new and upcoming film, “Oppenheimer.” But, instead of understanding the math and science behind the atomic bomb (Oppenheimer is the Father of Atomic Bomb), he focuses on the physicist’s relationship with his work.

Cheat Sheet said that the actor made his revelations in a recent interview with The Guardian. He shared that he did “an awful lot of reading” in preparation for the titular role.

However, Murphy noted that his interest lies more “in the man” and what his invention had done to him afterward. As for the “mechanics of it,” he said that it is not for him.

The “Peaky Blinder” star explained that he does not have the “intellectual capability” to understand the entire math and science behind it. Even so, he finds the “contradictory characters” fascinating, adding that “people identify with that because we all walk around with these contradictory ideas coexisting in our heads.”

“Oppenheimer” marks the first time Cillian Murphy is taking on a lead role under Christopher Nolan’s direction. Fans would recall that he has repeatedly worked with the “Tenet” filmmaker in the past, with 2017’s “Dunkirk” as the latest.

In the same engagement, the actor talked about his working relationship with the world-renowned director and producer. He said he “will always turn up” for Nolan, “whatever the size of the part,” adding that the latter will call him up and he is there.

Murphy, also, sang praises to the filmmaker, saying that the “Interstellar” creator is “flying the flag.” He, later on, asserted that Nolan, “Paul Thomas Anderson, and Quentin Tarantino are fantastic filmmakers, making interesting work on a massive scale.”

People noted that Murphy worked with Nolan in the “Dark Knight” trilogy as Jonathan Crane or Scarecrow. He took up roles, as well, in “Inception” as Robert Fischer and in “Dunkirk” as the Shivering Soldier.

Oppenheimer” follows the story of the titular theoretical physicist, who is known as the “Father of the Atomic Bomb.” It takes its bases on “American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer,” a biography from Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.

Christopher Nolan is the writer, producer, and director of the material. Apart from Cillian Murphy, the cast members, also, include Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Rami Malek, Jack Quaid, and Florence Pugh.

The filming reportedly began earlier in February. It is expected to hit the big screens in the summer of 2023.
