The journey to becoming one of the greatest assets of the British Monarchy was not easy for Kate Middleton. She faced intense public scrutiny, as well as criticisms, especially before she married Prince William.

Royal experts revealed that there was “some snobbery” toward the Duchess of Cambridge at the time, according to Express UK. She even obtained various hurtful nicknames, like “Kate Middle Class.”

Katie Nicholl explained that the future Queen Consort is a “middle class girl” from Berkshire. The Duke of Cambridge’s friends and social circles had concerns about it, adding that they were “slow to accept” the then-commoner Middleton.

She continued that these circles are known as the “glossy posse,” which is a set coming from Gloucestershire. They mix with the royal-born Prince, and they are “essentially the sons and daughters of wealthy, blue-blooded aristocrats.”

Other authors and experts had similar assertions about the subject. Vicky Ward and Andrew Morton echoed Nicholl’s statements, saying that Kate Middleton was a “victim of vicious sniping and snobbish insults.”

The latter even shared that the “social divide” between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, indeed, caused tensions in their relationship at the beginning. He consequently asserted that there was an apparent “abominable treatment” toward the future Queen Consort from the Glossy Posse.

Cheat Sheet previously released a similar report, revealing one of the other nicknames Kate Middleton obtained from critics within her then-boyfriend’s social circles. She and her sister, Pippa Middleton, were said to be referred to as “The Wisteria Sisters” because Prince William’s friends thought they were “highly decorative, terribly fragrant and with a ferocious ability to climb.”

These individuals from the upper classes allegedly saw the Duchess of Cambridge as a “social climber.” They did not deem her status the “right class” for a girlfriend of the future King of the United Kingdom.

Following all the claims, however, Kate Middleton, alongside Prince William and the rest of the British Royal Family, has not made any remark about the matter. Even so, she appears to have changed the minds of everyone across the United Kingdom after proving herself as an asset to the British Royals and the British Monarchy.

A separate report from Express UK even emphasized that the Duchess of Cambridge has already “cemented” her positions as of the most popular royals to date. She has repeatedly topped polls, charts, and lists of the most well-liked royals in the last decade.
