Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's departure as senior royals stressed Prince William and Kate Middleton. The Duchess of Cambridge is also "upset" about it, making her truly affected by their exit.

A source told People magazine that the Sussexes' withdrawal from their royal roles had been "hugely stressful" on the Cambridges. However, if there was one thing it had done good for them, it brought Prince William and Kate much closer together.

The insider revealed that the future queen consort was so upset because her husband was also disappointed. Seeing the father of her kids in that situation was so tough for her herself.

The issues about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had resulted in "some rare candid moments" for Prince William and Kate. After their interview with Oprah Winfrey, to whom they revealed the talks in the realm about what would be the color of Archie's skin when he was born, the future king stressed they were not a "racist family."

Alternatively, the queen-in-the-making quickly changed the subject when a student asked about Prince Harry and Meghan during a school visit. "What else?" she asked.

For starters, the now-California-based couple left the monarchy in January 2020. They told Winfrey that they came up with this decision due to the racism they experienced and the firm's disregard for mental health.

Prince Harry and Meghan are mostly staying in California as of late. Due to the pandemic, they rarely visit the U.K. In fact, the former actress has yet to return to her husband's home country since her final royal engagement in March 2020.

Meanwhile, despite the talks between the "Suits" actress and Kate, the latter has said nothing about Meghan. She also remains mum about their issues and the negative news the British tabloids are throwing at them, especially while working as senior royals.

Elle noted the two female royals were never close. Royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote in their book, "Finding Freedom," that Meghan would agree with the assumptions that she and Kate were not "the best of friends."

Their relationship had not progressed since she became Prince Harry's girlfriend. A source even told Scobie and Durand that Kate felt she did not have much in common with Meghan, aside from living at Kensington Palace until Meghan moved to Prince Harry's Frogmore Cottage in Windsor and settled down in Montecito, California.
