Britney Spears has some harsh words for Diane Sawyer.

In 2003, Spears was just 22 years old. She just got out of her relationship with Justin Timberlake and was living in her apartment in New York all by herself. In short, the singer was struggling.

On her Instagram account this week, Spears revealed that her then-manager invited Sawyer to her apartment to interview her. She didn’t have the option to say yes or no to the interview because it’s what her manager asked her to do.

The conversation between Spears and Sawyer became awkward very quickly when the latter seemingly accused her of causing her to split from Timberlake.

Sawyer also questioned if Spears ever cheated on Timberlake because she said that she had only been intimate with one person at the time. But as it turned out, Timberlake was the one who was unfaithful to Spears.

On top of this, Sawyer pressed Spears for more answers until the singer broke down in tears and asked her if they could take a break during the interview.

“Do we dare forget the Diane Sawyer interview in my apartment almost 20 years ago? What was with the ‘You’re in the wrong’ approach?? Geeze... and making me cry??? I was a baby. I was almost 22 and didn’t understand... but I [expletive] know now,” Spears wrote in a since-deleted post.

Sawyer also questioned Spears if her shopping was a form of addiction. A young Spears was shocked to hear the question and said that she loves buying shoes, clothes, and hats because they make her look good. However, this doesn’t mean that she has a shopping addiction.

As of late, Sawyer has not yet apologized to Spears publicly. But Timberlake already released a statement months ago after his tumultuous relationship with the singer made headlines.

“I’ve seen the messages, tags, comments I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right. I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism,” Timberlake wrote on his social media account.

Spears must have read her ex-boyfriend’s apology, but she never responded to it publicly.

The “Toxic” singer is still adjusting to her new life without a conservatorship.
