The upcoming fourth season of Atypical will serve as the last one for the comedy-drama, coming-of-age series. The show is returning in just less than a month on Netflix, and the streaming giant unveiled the trailer – highlighting the struggles of the Gardner family in the final run.

The fourth outing of Atypical wraps up the loose ends hanging since the beginning of the series. Created by How I Met Your Mother co-producer Robia Rashid, the show follows Sam Gardner (Keir Gilchrist), who has autism spectrum disorder, and his family accepting his decision to become independent.

The matriarch of the Gardeners, Elsa (Jennifer Jason Leigh), was particularly impacted when her son revealed he wanted to live his life on his own. As the series progresses, each family member accepted Sam’s decision, and all of them adjusted to the changes and what it means to be normal.

The recently-released trailer of Atypical teased that the fourth and final installment further sees Sam living his college life. In the clip, he and his Zahid Raja (Nik Dodani) can be seen getting an apartment as the former contemplates what he wants to do in his life after graduation.

Throughout the run of the series, Sam’s journey has a lot of ups and downs. He lived more independently and away from his family, despite the setbacks and hardships he encountered along the way. He is set to graduate college in the final season, something he thought he would never achieve.

However, his major concern this time is what would be his plan for the future after college. There is a possibility that he would pursue a career that will involve his love for animals, specifically penguins. In addition, he may decide to further hone his artistic talents.

It would be interesting to see how he is going to evolve once he figured out the right path for his career. This also means that Atypical will be ending on a positive, lighthearted note for Sam and the rest of the characters. It’ll bring more family stories, showing the highs and lows from a comedic perspective.

The series brings romantic stories, as well. For instance, the trailer featured the romance between Sam’s younger sister, Casey (Brigette Lundy-Paine), and Izzie (Fivel Stewart). Their friendship blossomed into something more in the previous seasons, and they’re now heading in a more romantic direction

The fourth season of Atypical is dropping all of its final 10 episodes on Friday, July 9, on Netflix.
