The Walking Dead wrapped up its tenth installment in April and it is now heading to the eleventh and final chapter of the post-apocalyptic horror drama. The good news is that ahead of the official series finale, AMC confirmed it will be releasing a four-part AMC+ series titled The Walking Dead: Origins.

The story of The Walking Dead: Origins is going to be different than what was being narrated in the flagship show. Instead, this limited outing focuses on certain characters – particularly Daryl (Norman Reedus), Carol (Melissa McBride), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

Prior to the announcement of the four-part AMC+, The Walking Dead delivered a lot of unexpected twists and turns. Originally, season 10 was set to conclude in April 2020, but the schedule was pushed back to October due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The original season 10 finale was titled “A Certain Doom,” but AMC added six more bonus episodes focusing on individual arcs, which began airing from February 2021 until April. Now, the series is gearing up to deliver big and intense stories in the final installment.

But, before that, fans of the post-apocalyptic horror drama should be prepared for the arrival of The Walking Dead: Origins first. It will deliver four special episodes each focused on Daryl, Carol, Maggie, and Negan – and their origin story will be explored.

Many were delighted when AMC announced these four special episodes since the aforementioned characters were some of the popular fan-favorites. Negan, in particular, is going to be an interesting focus since he used to be an antagonist in the story.

Later on, Negan teamed up with other Survivors and has since become a major player. One of the season 10 bonus episodes also focused on him, and it detailed his back story and introduced his wife, Lucille. With his Origins episode, his past will be further fleshed out.

Meanwhile, the series is the first surprise of AMC's "11 Weeks of Reveals until Season 11". Every Thursday, the network will be dropping trailers and more revelations while the series finale is approaching. The Walking Dead: Origins starts airing next month on AMC+.

The first episode is focused on Daryl’s story, which is scheduled for July 15. Then, it will be followed by Maggie’s story on July 22, Negan’s story on July 29, and ending on August 5 with Carol’s story. In addition, fans get a chance to see a sneak peek of season 11 in each episode.

After The Walking Dead: Origins, fans can expect season 11 premiering in August.
