Prince Edward has recently talked about some of the recent reports involving the Royal Family, including the alleged rift between the Firm and the couple Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. In a rare interview, the Earl of Wessex revealed important happenings around them.

Speaking to CNN, Prince Edward broke his silence on the controversies surrounding the Firm. Queen Elizabeth II and the late Prince Philip’s youngest son dropped several revelations about the Royal Family, and the first one is all about Markle and Prince Harry.

The Earl of Wessex discussed the tensions between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Royal Household, which started after the couple’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March. While the firm maintained its silence regarding this matter, Prince Edward has been open about it.

“It’s difficult for everyone, but that’s families for you,” he told Max Foster of CNN.

Prince Edward noted Markle and Prince Harry struggled in finding happiness while being in the spotlight and fulfilling their royal duties. The Earl of Wessex said that they have been there in the past – pointing out the “excessive intrusion and attention” in their lives.

He added that all of them deal with this matter in different ways. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back as the senior members of the Firm in 2020 and moved to the United States after that. For Prince Edward, this is a hard decision but he wished the couple the very best of luck.

The Earl of Wessex went on to discuss the birth of Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, Markle's and Prince Harry’s second child. He shared his joy for the Sussexes, noting it’s “fantastic news about the baby.” As for his thoughts on the rift between the firm and the couple, he has something to say about it.

"It’s just… families are families, aren’t they, really?” he said.

Meanwhile, the year 2021 is a tough one for the Royal Family as they’ve dealt with the death of Prince Philip in April. Prince Edward shared how Queen Elizabeth II has been doing after losing her husband for 73 years. The Earl of Wessex said Her Majesty is “doing remarkably well.”

He explained that Queen Elizabeth II's busy schedule helped her cope with grief and the current activities fill the void. However, he made it clear that things will eventually become “a bit more poignant and a bit harder.”

Next, Prince Edward talked about continuing Prince Philip’s legacy. The Earl of Wessex took over the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme when his father retired from his royal duties in 2017. He’s set to inherit the title Duke of Edinburgh when Prince Charles becomes the King.

Lastly, he revealed what Prince Philip would’ve wanted on 100th his birthday, which was on June 10. Prince Edward said that if his father made it to his birthday, there’ll be a huge celebration. However, he added that the Duke of Edinburgh “wouldn’t have wanted the fuss and the bother” since he’s so “self-effacing.”
