Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth have been married for over seven decades but they couldn’t be more different from each other.

According to Express, the royal couple has very different preferences when it comes to traveling. When the Queen was much younger, she used to enjoy traveling via the Royal Train.

In fact, there was a time when she bought a first-class train ticket to travel from London to her estate in Sandringham. The Queen could’ve traveled via a private jet but she still opted to take the train.

Royal author Robert Hardman previously revealed that Prince Philip didn’t like traveling on trains. In 1952, the Duke of Edinburgh and his wife went on a royal tour of Canada mostly by train.

“It was a hugely ambitious tour, designed to carry the royal couple across Canada and then back again. Much of the journey would be by special Royal Train decorated in the Princess’s favorite ‘surf green,’ along with green damask and taffeta curtains and a light-brown carpet. If it was snug and well insulated against the increasingly bracing weather, the Duke found it faintly claustrophobic,” Hardman said.

According to the royal author, Prince Philip made a negative comment about his experience on tour onboard a train. He said that he felt like a poached egg because he couldn’t breathe on trains.

Despite their differences, Prince Philip and Queen’s marriage has been solid. In fact, the monarch gushed over her husband during their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997. At that time, Her Majesty called Prince Philip her strength and stay.

Two years ago, the Queen also gave Prince Philip a special shout out on during her Christmas address. At that time, she praised the Duke of Edinburgh for his support and unique sense of humor.

Prince Philip and the Queen are self-quarantining in Windsor Castle due to the coronavirus pandemic. Prior to the outbreak, the royal couple was living separately in Sandringham and the Buckingham Palace, respectively.

According to a palace courtier, the royal couple decided to live separately because Prince Philip would still involve himself with royal life if he was living at Buckingham Palace.

“The Queen feels the Duke has earned a proper retirement. She knows him too well – if he was still at the center of royal life he’d feel he had to be involved. Being at Wood Farm means he’s not too far away, but far enough to be able to relax,” the source said.
