Vice President-elect Kamala Harris appeared for an interview, where she urged people not to allow anyone to put them in a box due to their gender. She is slated to become the first female vice president.

During an interview on Good Morning America anchor, Robin Roberts brought up the subject of Harris and her husband breaking gender stereotypes in their impending roles. The U.S. Senator said with each one of these moments; we are advancing as a society.

She went on to say that people must understand that they should not allow anyone to put them in a box because of their gender, which she says is very important. GMA took to its verified Twitter account to share a short clip of the interview, along with her comments about reminding the future generation not to be confined by the limited perception that some people might have of who they are or who they can be.

Harris revealed that her husband, Doug Emhoff, is very excited about his new role as America's first, second gentleman. She also said Emhoff is proud to be the father of a son, as well as a daughter, jokingly adding that he has a sweatshirt that says “girl dad.”

Harris noted that Emhoff realizes that they have a lot of work to do in terms of reminding their kids of every gender that they should not be limited by someone's restricted perception regarding who they are or who they can be. Emhoff's two children, Cole and Ella, refer to their stepmom with the nickname "Momala," The Hill reported.

Roberts asked her what she will be thinking about when she is sworn in as vice president in Jan.; Kamala then responded, her mother. She noted that she feels a sense of responsibility that although she is the first veep in American history, she wants to ensure that she isn't the last.

Harris said she was raised by her mother, who always told her that she might be the first to do a myriad of things, but she needs to ensure that she is not the last. "That’s how I feel about this moment," she said, alluding to her being the first female vice president.

This comment coincides with the previous remarks that she made during her first address to America as vice president-elect. At the time, she vowed that though she may be the first woman in the office, she will not be the last. She addressed every girl watching the speech, saying that they need to look at her and realize this is a country of possibilities.
