Queen Elizabeth is, undeniably, the longest-reigning British monarch in history. The wife of Prince Philip surpassed the reign of her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, on Sept. 9, 2015. Despite her advanced age, Her Majesty continues to grace royal events and carry out engagements even amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The mother of Prince Charles has been showing the public that she can still perform her duties as the Queen even at 94 years old. However, there are, also, some followers of Queen Elizabeth who want her to give up the throne and enjoy a life away from the limelight. So, why does Queen Elizabeth need to abdicate soon?

Prince Charles’ takeover can benefit the monarchy in terms of finances

Statista revealed that the British royal family had spent approximately 69.2 million pounds between 2019 and 2020. It said that the monarchy had expended 24.4 million pounds for its payroll costs, 38.3 million pounds for property maintenance, 3.1 million for utilities, and 2.6. million pounds for housekeeping. They, reportedly, also have 5.3 million pounds worth of travel expenses.

The Royal family’s expenditure, according to data, has been increasing over the years. Experts said this is something that the monarchy has to address as soon as possible as this could turn into a major problem, and the British public, most likely, would not be pleased about it.

Reports have it that things would be different, however, if Prince Charles takes possession of the throne. It can be recalled that the husband of Camilla Parker-Bowles is said to be slimming down the monarchy to cut the palace’s daily costs. Paul Burrell, who is the former butler of Princess Diana, told Us Weekly that the Prince of Wales intends to reduce the number of full-time working members of the family and only maintain those in the immediate line of succession.

Prince Charles wants to put a focus on Camilla, William and Kate’s works

In other words, the public would only see a few working royals when Prince Charles begins his reign. Other members of the royal family, like Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice, are likely to fade into the background. The move would only highlight Prince Charles, Camilla, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

There is no denying that Prince Charles is capable of supporting the entire monarchy as he has been the patron pr president of, more or less, 400 charities. He, also, carries out dozens of royal engagements annually in support of his core patronages and charities – something that Queen Elizabeth could no longer do due to her advanced age.

Prince Charles would be a more outspoken ruler, unlike Queen Elizabeth

Historian Carolyn Harris told Reader’s Digest that, unlike Queen Elizabeth, who is very cautious in uttering words in public, Prince Charles is likely to tackle and express his firm views on environmental and social issues if he becomes King. The Duke of Cornwall has been known for holding strong opinions on numerous subjects, such as sustainable development, architecture, and organic farming. The father of Prince William and Prince Harry is, also, expected to offer solutions to some of the most palpable societal problems the world is facing today, which may include alleviating the effects of climate change and promoting environmental conservation.

Prince Charles wants to reduce the drama and controversies plaguing the monarchy

The British royal family has faced several issues and hullabaloos over the years, and Prince Charles is, reportedly, very eager to change this when he takes over the throne. The former husband of Princess Diana, allegedly, has better ways in mind in dealing with the disparagements being thrown at them following Prince Andrew’s molestation allegations and the infamous royal departure of Prince Harry.

Prince Charles, as per reports, wants to change the image of the entire monarchy, and that is something he is very willing to do once Queen Elizabeth, who vowed to reign until her last breath, gives up the throne and her royal title.
