This year has been packed with unprecedented challenges that people around the world faced bravely, but aside from the global pandemic, Kim Kardashian West had other issues to deal with. Kanye West shocked the world by announcing that he will be running for president this year. His wife was supportive until he divulged some very personal details involving their marriage during his first presidential rally.

The 43-year-old rapper revealed that he was planning to divorce his wife but decided against it. These remarks led to speculations about Kim being hurt and planning to call it quits. While the longtime couple seemed to have buried the hatchet, much to the relief of KimYe fans, a source claims that they are living separate lives.

The insider told PEOPLE that Kim is focusing on projects that are important to her, and her husband Kanye has his work too. Their lives do not overlap, but that hasn't stopped the 40-year-old KKW Beauty founder from being happy and stay focused on work and causes.

The insider said Kim believes she is capable of making a difference in terms of prison reform and is studying to become a lawyer. As part of her efforts to bring in changes in the prison reform, Kim publicly urged President Donald Trump in a tweet to commute the sentence of  Brandon Bernard, who was convicted of murder in 2000, when he was a teenager. He was executed after the Supreme Court denied a request for a delay, CNN reported.

According to the source, justice reform advocacy is Kim's passion and her family is very proud of her. On the other hand, her husband has maintained a low profile recently after pushing himself into the spotlight earlier this year. In July, the rapper launched an unconventional bid for president of America.

He used his campaign trail and Twitter account to reveal deeply personal details about his marriage and family. West's campaign came during a new cycle in his bipolar disorder, a source told PEOPLE at the time. His remarks landed his marriage in crisis. The famous couple appeared to be on the verge of divorce before rekindling their relationship in Aug. after spending quality time with their children, North, 7, and Chicago, 3. They also share sons Psalm, 18 months, and Saint, 5.
