Despite losing the recently concluded US Elections 2020 to Democrat Joe Biden, President Donald Trump refuses to acknowledge the election results. The president and his allies continue to push a legal drive, suggesting that the Democrats stole the election from their party with the help of a widespread mail-in voters fraud, but haven't backed their claims with any evidence.

President-elect Joe Biden is subject to receiving intelligence briefings, and the hold-up in enabling the transition to get started officially is having a detrimental effect on U.S. national security. These remarks came from Trump's former chief of staff John Kelly during an exclusive interview with POLITICO.

According to Kelly, delayed transition causes a lot of damage because it stops the incoming administration from being involved. Noting that the president doesn't need to acknowledge the results, he said delayed transition hurts national security because those who should be getting their heads in the game are restricted from accessing crucial information.

Kelly explained that it is not a process that lets you go from zero to 1,000 mph. He suggested that Trump should order the transition process to start without wasting more time as it is the right thing to do. Oklahoma Sen. James Lankford, a Republican, and several lawmakers of the party now back the idea of Biden's transition team receiving access to the same intelligence briefings that the president receives.

Lankford pointed out that the bipartisan committee investigating the 9/11 terrorist attacks found that the delayed transition after the 2000 election may have led to a lack of a high level of preparedness for the attack. The commission said the loss of time-restricted the incoming administration in clearing, recruiting, identifying, and acquiring Senate confirmation of top appointees, cutting back the nation's preparedness ahead of the terrorist attacks.

Kelly had left the White House under controversial circumstances in Jan. last year and has voiced criticism of the current administration after leaving the post. He even told his friends that Trump is the most unsound person he has ever met in his life, CNN reported last month.

Moreover, GSA (General Services Administration) head, Emily Murphy, who was appointed by Trump, has also refused to formally acknowledge Biden as the winner. Murphy has to provide a letter of "ascertainment" on the election results, which leads to the transition process.

With Murphy refusing to declare the former vice president as the winner of the election, resources such as funding used to facilitate the transition, have been frozen, Business Insider reported. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence has denied giving Biden access to high-level intelligence briefings until GSA acknowledges him as the winner.
