Blake Shelton left no stone unturned in a bid to make sure that he proposes to Gwen Stefani the right way. The country singer adopted a highly traditional approach of asking the pop singer's father for his daughter's hand in marriage and even made sure her kids were involved in his engagement plans.

As if that weren't adorable enough, Shelton got approval from three important people before he proposed Stefani. A source close to the 51-year-old "Don't Speak" songstress told PEOPLE in this week's issue that Shelton, 44, had a conversation with Stefani’s kids before he got down on one knee to propose to his longtime girlfriend.

Stefani shares three children, Apollo, 6, Zuma, 12, and Kingston, 14, with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. Reaching out to Stefani's sons, Shelton told them that he wanted to propose and need their permission, the source told the outlet. Although the proposal wasn't something Stefani's family was expecting, they approve of him and feel he makes a good partner and an amazing dad to the kids.

Gwen is understandably ecstatic, the source added. Furthermore, the source said the couple decided to remain tight-lipped about their engagement for several days before revealing it to their fans via an Instagram post on Oct. 27. The couple was excited about their joint announcement, where Stefani gave her fans a brief glimpse of her engagement ring.

Shelton helped his girlfriend when it came to taking care of her three sons during the coronavirus-infused lockdown. Another source told Entertainment Times that Shelton is very close to the boys, and he made sure that they were a part of the engagement process.

For his proposal, Shelton got a customized engagement ring from the same designers that previously made bracelets for the 51-year-old "Hollaback Girl" singer. Aside from the kids, Shelton involved her dad in his engagement plans.

He took a traditional route and first asked Stefani's father for her hand in marriage. The Voice judge decided to adopt this traditional method, keeping in mind that Stefani is very traditional. According to Popculture, the singer's dad simply adores Shelton.

Shelton proposed to his longtime love on Oct. 17 in Oklahoma, where he has bought a property. An insider suggests Shelton was the one who insisted on taking things slow while Stefani was restlessly waiting to tie the knot. Their engagement announcement came after the couple spent a significant amount of time together while holed up with the three kids.
