Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may have purposely channeled Wallis Simpson and King Edward VIII with their new portrait.

According to New Idea, there are obvious parallels between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s portrait and a photo of Simpson and King Edward from decades ago.

In the snaps, Markle and Simpson are sitting in front of their spouses while Prince Harry and King Edward’s hands are resting behind their wives.

A source told the tabloid that Markle is an astute study of Simpson and everything that the late royal embodied.

The insider said that Markle knows exactly how Simpson felt because she thinks that she’s the most bullied member of the royal family since King Edward’s wife. And the Suits alum is also, allegedly, keen on emulating Simpson’s stiff resolve.

Woman’s Day published a similar story about Markle and Prince Harry’s portrait because of its similarities with Simpson and King Edward’s photo.

Not to mention, King Edward abdicated from the throne so that he could marry Simpson. And decades later, Prince Harry quit The Firm so he and Markle could have a more peaceful and private life.

According to The Guardian, another similarity between Markle and Simpson is that they're both of American descent. The two female royals also received the same ruthless criticisms from the papers.

When she was still alive, a source claimed that Britons wished King Edward married a respectable shop girl whom he could have ennobled rather than a divorcee. It is important to note that Markle is also a divorcee.

Following his abdication, King Edward’s brother, King George, offered him a stipend to make sure that he would never set foot on British soil again without permission. King Edward agreed, so he spent most of his life after his abdication touring around Europe and the Caribbean.

As of late, Prince William or any other senior member of the royal family hasn’t banned Prince Harry from setting foot on British soil. In fact, it has already been confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will return to the United Kingdom to attend a court hearing in January.

There is still no confirmation whether Prince Harry and Markle will join the royal family on Christmas Day in Sandringham. But a palace insider said that it might be difficult for the Sussexes to travel with their 1-year-old son, Archie, due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
