Kate Middleton and Prince William have been together for a decade before they got engaged.

But even the length of their relationship wasn’t enough to make Middleton feel secured. In fact, the only time that she knew she and Prince William would end up together was after he put a ring on her finger.

Prior to this, Middleton, reportedly, devised a plan in case Prince William dumps her. The Duchess of Cambridge didn’t want to appear needy so she decided to carve out her own independent career as a camouflage.

In the book Battle of Brothers, author Robert Lacey said that Middleton’s long-term objective was to bring Prince William to the altar in handcuffs. But before this happened, she thought of ways how she won’t appear needy.

“In neither respect would it help Ms. Middleton to appear the slightest bit needy - and of course there was the ultimate unthinkable possibility that she might end up getting dumped!” Lacey said.

And Middleton’s prediction came true twice. During the span of her relationship with Prince William, the couple broke up. But their second split was initiated by the future king.

Also in the book, Lacey said that Prince William phoned Middleton while she was at work to tell her that they should go their separate ways. Middleton stayed in a private room so no one could hear their conversation.

And after she got out an hour later, she was already a single woman. However, her split from Prince William didn’t last very long because it didn’t also take Prince William very long to realize that he wants to be with Middleton for the rest of their lives.

Three years after their split, Prince William and Middleton announced their engagement. And the couple tied the knot in 2011 at Westminster Abbey.

Since then, the couple’s relationship has been very strong. And one of the rare times they suffered a blow in their marriage was when Prince William was accused of having an affair with Rose Hanbury.

Last year, sources claimed that the affair was the reason why Middleton and Hanbury had a falling out. However, the claims were never confirmed or denied by Prince William. They simply died a natural death.

As such, no one knows for sure if Prince William really cheated on Middleton.
