This information was revealed by senior officials that are involved with the plans. Trump announced that the United States government is freezing new green cards for two months, as part of a stringent immigration move that he deems necessary for protecting American workers amid the coronavirus pandemic.

During the press conference, Trump said it would be unfair to replace Americans laid off due to the virus being replaced by foreign workers. It is imperative to first take care of American worker, Trump said reiterating the "American first" motif of his 2016 campaign and terms in offices.

"Right now," Trump told reporters, "we have to have jobs for Americans." To ensure that, he said they've decided to close down the world's largest economy. Stating that Americans have to work to support their families, Trump pointed out that they cannot break the country, suggesting people are restlessly waiting to get back to work.

The weekly poll, on the other hand, suggests the majority of Americans are more worried about the virus spreading rather than getting back to work. After the country went into lockdown last month, millions of Americans filed for unemployment benefits, Independent reported.

One of Trump's coronavirus task force members Deborah Birx was asked how businesses such as tattoo shops, nail salons, and hair salons could reopen safely because these services do not follow social distancing measures. Flummoxed by the question, Birx said if people can do those things without ignoring social distancing restrictions, then they can provide those services, clearly suggesting she didn't know-how. "People are very creative," she added.

Referring to his imminent immigration order, Trump noted that it would be applicable for those seeking green cards, adding that those seeking temporary visits will not be affected.  Trump plans to make the move official on Apr. 22, restricting the flow of immigrants into the country.

Based on the country's economic conditions, Trump said he would decide whether or not to extend the 2-months freeze. The POTUS hinted at this move via a late-night tweet on Monday, indicating that he is planning to shut down the American immigration system and allow only temporary visitors.

He suggested there will be some waivers for “humanitarian” reasons, and divulged more details on Tuesday. To combat the attack from the Invisible Enemy, and to ensure GREAT American Citizens do not lose their jobs to foreigners, Trump said he will be signing an Executive Order that will temporarily suspend immigration into the country.

A 2018 US Supreme Court ruling allows the U.S. President to do so citing public health emergency. The executive order will allow non-immigrant visas such as healthcare workers, front-line workers, as well as those deemed essential to the health and economy of America.
