Prince William and Prince Harry’s feud is reportedly more serious than what the public might think.

According to Daily Mail journalist Jenny Johnston, a lot of people thought that Prince William and Prince Harry’s feud will just blow over. But what the royal historians have been saying is the complete opposite.

“If this breach between the brothers is not healed in some way it will come to stand with the Abdication crisis and the death of Diana as one of the traumas that changed the monarchy. There is time to change things in a positive direction, but at the moment the Palace is not working in that direction,” she said.

In Robert Lacey’s book, Battle of Brothers, he talks about the fall out of Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship. Additionally, the book also traces their very different lives and their equally different wives.

Lacey said that his book will be very different from Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand’s book, Finding Freedom. After all, the Battle of Brothers is written in an old-fashioned adulatory style of royal eulogy.

When asked if he thinks Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were involved in the book, he said that there are some descriptions there that could’ve only come from the couple.

Lacey, on the other hand, spent months talking to royal insiders, who shed insight on Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship. He also said that their falling out happened even before the stories made headlines.

The royal author also insisted that Prince William and Prince Harry’s feud is crucial to the royal family and the monarchy.

“It matters. It’s a question of values, even about national morale. The idea of our modern royalty was built on the idea of these two brothers. What you’ve got to realize is that the whole strategy of the monarchy was based on them sticking together. Meghan changed all that. She is difficult. She has an incredible and dangerous level of self-belief,” he said.

Lacey also seemingly put the blame on the palace for treating second-born royals wrongly.

“They always treat the second-born badly, not to say cruelly. It happened with Princess Margaret. It happened with Prince Andrew. It’s the classic heir and the spare thing. They just don’t know what to do with the spare. And they certainly didn’t know what to do with the spare’s wife,” he said.

Battle of Brothers will be available starting October 15.
