With Election Day just around the corner, Joe Biden has been endorsed by Cindy McCain. The widow of Arizona's longtime Republican Sen. John McCain announced that she endorses the Democratic presidential nominee for President.

The announcement can be touted as a stunning rebuke of President Donald Trump since it comes from the widow of the Republican party’s 2008 nominee. McCain took to her Twitter account on Tuesday, speaking about her husband who gave America utmost priority.

She went on to admit that although they are Republicans, they are Americans foremost. In her tweet, McCain went on to tout Biden as the only candidate in this year's presidential race who stands up for the values of Americans as a nation.

Trump's relationship with members of John McCain’s family after demeaning the Arizona senator in his 2016 campaign has been stressy. The president has publicly slammed McCain on several occasions and was furious when the senator didn't vote in favor of overturning Obamacare.

The president even said McCain was only a war hero because he was captured, adding that he likes people who weren't captured. Moreover, he said McCain lost and let America down, noting that he never liked him as much after that because he doesn't like losers. The McCains, on the other hand, stopped short of promoting Trump's rivals, The Guardian reported.

Admitting that she and Joe do not necessarily agree on the issues, and is aware that he and her husband have had some passionate arguments, McCain said Joe is a good and honest man. "He will lead us with dignity," she wrote.

She went on to predict that Biden will be a commander in chief that the finest fighting force in the history of the world can count on because he understands what it is like to send a child off to war. Biden responded via a tweet, saying he is deeply honored to have her support and her friendship.

The former vice president noted that this election is bigger than any one political party, and required Americans to come together as one America and help restore the soul of the country. "Together, we'll get it done," he tweeted.

McCain’s support could help Biden to garner backing from Republicans disaffected with the president, giving him a much-needed boost in the crucial swing state of Arizona that McCain represented in Congress for 35 years. Biden attributed McCain's support to what Trump talks about his son, her husband, and others who are heroes, who served the United States, but whom the president refers to as "losers, suckers."
