Princess Diana’s life has always been a spectacle for many of the royal fans. Although the Princess has passed away already from an unfortunate car crash 23 years ago, the world and the royal family itself has never forgotten to celebrate the ‘People’s Princess’s’ life.

In the past month, Diana’s brother, the 9th Earl Spencer, Charles Spencer has spoken about her death anniversary, which was on Aug. 31. Diana’s brother revealed that the late Princess had a traumatic childhood.

Charles Spencer explained that the divorce of their parents, father John Spencer, Viscount Althorp and mother, The Honourable Frances Ruth Roche was a difficult one for Princess Diana.

He claimed that Diana would often wait on the doorstep of their house for their mother, who was at that time already divorced from their father. But these claims of the 9th Earl of Spencer has been debunked by a former family nanny of the Spencer family.

Princess Diana’s nanny, Mary Clarke, 70, revealed that Princess Diana led a very sheltered life, all of the Spencer kids lead a sheltered life and claimed that the kids did not know that a court battle between their parents was happening.

Mary Clarke described Diana and her sibling as completely oblivious of what was happening, and that they were happy. She also then asserted that their mother, Frances was a devoted mother to them and often visit them when she had the time.

A vicious court battle for the custody of the Spencer children ensued between the Viscount of Althorp and Frances after their divorce.

According to Mary Clarke, Frances was fighting till her very last strength to get custody of her children, but unfortunately, she lost the first plea. Frances then took action and filed a second custody plea but again lost.

Former nanny, Mary Clarke then explained that Frances’ actions towards the custody battle showed that she truly loved her kids and that Charles Spencer’s claims of having an unhappy childhood is not completely true.

Frances Ruth Roche was married to John Spencer, Viscount Althorpe on 1954. Frances was 18 at that time and John Spencer was 30 in Westminister Abbey.

Their marriage ended with a divorce after 15 years of marriage and five children. According to people who knew the Spencer family, the marriage of Frances and John Spencer was extremely unhappy.

The same year of the divorce Frances Ruth Roche married tycoon, Peter Shand Kydd.
