The media frenzy that so happened to revolve around the couple, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle early in their relationship has been a love and hate affiliation. Numerous times, the couple have complained that they were being blatantly vilified by the United Kingdom media.

Meghan Markle, especially had the shorter end of the stick, as she was attacked multiple times by tabloid headlines. This led to a legal battle between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the United Kingdom-based media.

The legal battle was between tabloid, The Mail and The Dailymail UK. The Duchess of Sussex filed the lawsuit against the Dailymail back in 2019. The lawsuit was over leaked letters the Duchess sent to her father, who at that time was estranged from Meghan. The Duchess lost the first round during the legal battles.

Now, according to the chairman of the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO), The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could have settled their row with the public media in a less publicized and cheaper way.

The Independent Press Standards Organisation is the independent regulator of the newspapers and tabloid based in the United Kingdom. The Chairman of IPSO commented on the happening between Meghan Markle and the press by saying that the royal couple could have used the arbitration scheme offered by the IPSO.

The arbitration scheme can be used to rule a dispute between two camps. The fees offered are not pricey, at only $170. Damages of up to $100,000 can be awarded, with costs at around $40,000 only.

Harry and Meghan had an awful relationship with the media during their time in the royal family. Meghan was often criticized by the media more than anyone in the royal institution. The couple, later on, decided to leave their royal duties, announcing it last January 2020. The couple then opted to spend their first Christmas in Canada rather than in the UK.

Their decision to leave the royal family was finalized on March 2020, wherein the two already moved to America.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have gained control over their freedom after separating themselves from the royal family. They are now considered as private citizens and have chosen not to carry their titles as much as possible.

Harry and Meghan, and their son, Archie Harrison are currently situated in Montecito, Santa Barbara, California. They made headlines after signing on with Netflix and will make their first TV debut in America for TIME’s 100 Most Influential People.
