There is little doubt that Joker is one of the biggest films of the year. The unusual take on the DC comic book supervillain's story is being praised by fans and critics alike. In addition to that, the Todd Phillips movie is already breaking records since its early October release. But, what are the chances that the Warner Bros. flick will bring home several Oscars, including the Best Actor award for Joaquin Phoenix?

In Joker, Joaquin Phoenix played Arthur Fleck, an aspiring stand-up comedian who struggles with mental disorders. The Gladiator star's performance in the film has been praised, and some have been declared the movie as the best of 2019. But is it good enough to earn Phoenix an Oscar? Warner Bros. seems to think so as the studio has just recommended it for several major Academy Awards, including Best Actor.

The official Warner Bros. website has posted a list of recommendations for Joker. In addition to recommending Joaquin Phoenix for the Academy Award for Best Actor, the studio also wants the Academy to consider Todd Phillips for Best Director, Robert De Niro for Best Supporting Actor, Zazie Beetz and Frances Conroy for Best Supporting Actress, and Phillips and Scott Silver for Best Adapted Screenplay. Moreover, Warner Bros. is hoping that the movie will nab the Best Picture Award. Interestingly, the recommendations pretty much suggest that Joker should be nominated for everything, including Best Cinematography and Best Original Score.

It's no surprise that Warner Bros. feels very confident about Joker. After all, the film's premiere was met with an eight-minute standing ovation at the Venice International Film Festival. Additionally, the movie took home the Golden Lion, which is the top prize at the festival. At this point, it would be a shock if Joaquin Phoenix is not nominated for an Oscar.

Although it is still unclear if the Academy will consider Joker for any of the major awards, the film has already won a completely different award. The Joaquin Phoenix movie has just been confirmed as the highest-grossing R-rated picture, beating previous title holder Deadpool 2 and its sequel. With major box office earnings, fans believe that Joker will eventually bring home several Academy Awards.

Will Joaquin Phoenix win an Oscar for this performance as Arthur Fleck? Is the film set to take home all the major categories at the Academy Awards? We'll need to wait until the Oscars air next year. In the meantime, Joker is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
