There has been uncertainty as to who will be the King after the Queen retires. The Queen has expressed her preference of grandson Prince William over son Prince Charles. However, according to what royal experts and commentators are speculating and the general royal rule, it’s all but certain that it is Prince Charles who will get the highest chair in the monarchy after the Queen.

As Prince Charles becomes the new head of the throne, a number of shuffles will take place in the royal family.

Although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have stepped back from their senior roles, the Sussex family won’t be left out in the process.  That also includes the Sussexes’ son Archie. According to the reports, once Prince Charles becomes the King, the one-year-old will automatically be entitled to be the Prince. It’s simply so because the Duke of Wales is Archie’s grandfather.

At the same time, it’s no compulsion on Archie, it will eventually be up to him if he chooses to use the royal title or not. Archie’s parents Meghan and Harry, dropped their royal titles as they stepped back from their royal responsibilities and may expect the same from their son.

The theory of the story is that it largely depends on where Archie grows up. The Sussexes want to raise their son away from the beam of regality, away from the royal house, and don’t want him to have the royal title. Currently, the official full name of their son is Master Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Another reason why Sussexes and Archie may not want the royal title is the code of living the royal life. For example, if Archie becomes the Prince, he will have to ask the King for permission to marry.

“Prior to the Succession of the Crown Act 2013 all descendants of George II, under the terms of the Royal Marriages Act 1772, unless the issue of a princess who had married into a foreign royal family, had to obtain the sovereign’s permission to marry in order to retain their rights in succession,” said expert Iain MacMarthanne in conversation with the Express.

It’s not hard to see that the likeliness Archie’s use of the title is near nil, unless, the Duke and Duchess migrate back to the royal family - among the royal family members, it will be all but certain that Archie will be using the title of Prince. Essentially, a lot is dependent on how Sussexes decide to move further.
